The du Preez’s recently welcomed 7-day old Pietman to their home!
To say Pietman’s dad, Pieter (or “Supa Piet” as he’s known) is a legend is somewhat of an understatement. Pieter is a C6 quadriplegic after a tragic accident in 2003 which left him with no movement from his shoulders down. He has no movement in his fingers and hands and little/no movement in his triceps…but that hasn’t slowed him down.
In the last couple of years alone he has achieved double gold medals at the Paracycling World Championships, he is a course record holder in the Berlin Marathon, he is the first C6 quad to complete a full 70.3 Ironman and has since completed 4 and he is the world record holder in this event. And most recently he swam the 8km Robben Island swim…a world first for a quadriplegic. He is an actuarial analyst at Deloitte – where I first had the pleasure of meeting him.
Illse has been his number one supporter and fan – they just celebrated their 9th wedding anniversary!
Now they’re embarking on a new adventure which Pieter affectionately calls his latest achievement as… IRONDAD 😉
Pieter is helping raise funds for the Wings For Life Foundation (not-for-profit spinal cord research foundation). You can find out more here: http://www.wingsforlifeworldrun.com/…/help-us-raise-funds-…/
